The Africa Oceans Casino was conceived as part of London Club's bid for a KwaZulu-Natal casino licence, combining gaming facilities with a large-scale entertainment and tourism destination in Westville, Durban. The proposal aimed to distinguish itself from standard applications through the integration of an oceanarium attraction, centered on a Great White Shark tank, extending the brief beyond typical gaming conventions.
The key challenge involved organizing a cohesive mixed-use plan that seamlessly unified gaming, hospitality, exhibition spaces, restaurants, and retail under a singular architectural vision.
The structural complexity required a master plan approach balancing secure flow management, high-volume entertainment, and theatrical spectacle. The design organizes these diverse spaces around an artificial lake, which functions as the spatial anchor for the precinct. Hotel and entertainment facilities are integrated into a continuous landscaped edge, creating a unified park-like environment.
